Research Interests

GABAA receptors (GABAARs) mediate the majority of fast synaptic inhibition in the central nervous system (CNS). GABAARs are dynamically regulated by a number of pathological (e.g. epilepsy) and physiological (e.g. pregnancy) conditions, which result in changes in neuronal excitability. Our lab focuses on investigating how dysfunction in GABAAR regulation may play an important role in the pathophysiology of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, such as epilepsy, anxiety disorders, and depression. Employing a wide range of techniques, including electrophysiology, biochemistry and behavioral approaches, we seek to understand the pathogenesis of these disorders.
